When two people bring different cultures, traditio When two people bring different cultures, traditions and family expectations into one celebration, the answer is not to squeeze everything in.

It is to decide what carries meaning.

What deserves to be honoured?
What can be reinterpreted?
What no longer represents you?
And what will make your guests understand you both more deeply?

A multicultural wedding should feel cohesive, not crowded. Personal, not performative.

You are not simply combining traditions. You are creating the first traditions of your new family.

Whatever you are creating, it should feel consider Whatever you are creating, it should feel considered, personal and unmistakably yours.

When you are planning a wedding or event, that might mean having someone shape the concept, manage the details and consider how every part of the experience will feel for your guests.

If you know what you want to say but cannot quite find the words, it might mean receiving assistance to write vows or a speech that sound like you, only clearer and more considered.

If you want to honour someone meaningfully, it might be a custom poem written for one person, couple or occasion. When you want every guest to feel seen, it might be a Poetry Place Card created especially for each of them.

And if you are creating a conference, cultural event or purposeful gathering, it might mean a talk, panel contribution or spoken-word performance shaped around the people in the room.

Different needs. Different ways to work together. The same commitment to making every detail earn its place.

When I first started AVE Creations, I didn’t see When I first started AVE Creations, I didn’t see many women in the UK who looked like me operating at the level of excellence I aspired to.

Then @bydamistudiosnyc introduced me to Akeshi Akinseye of @keshevents @akeshiakinseye @thekeshexperience

The #ComeToTheFront challenge asked us to share someone you genuinely want people to know about so here you go:

Akeshi is a world-class event planner and designer, an author, speaker and, I’m privileged to say, a wonderful mentor and friend. Her work is beautiful, but it was never beauty alone that drew me to her. It was the intention behind it. The standard. The way she approached this industry as both a creative and a businesswoman.

So I reached out, booked a ticket to Chicago and went to learn from her. The rest, as they say, is history.

Over the years, Akeshi has encouraged me, challenged me and reminded me that there should be no conflict between creativity, excellence and commercial acumen. Her example helped me see more clearly what was possible, while giving me room to discover what excellence would look like in my own voice.

Today, AVE Creations has its own aesthetic, values and point of view. But some of the standards that shaped its foundation were strengthened by having someone ahead of me who was generous enough to share what she knew.

Akeshi, thank you for being proof, possibility and a very good friend (you literally have the biggest heart!). More people should know your work, but even more than that, they should know the woman behind it. ♥️

#ComeToTheFront #Day9
One project will eventually become a book. The oth One project will eventually become a book. The other, an experience shared by a room full of people.

I’m currently working on a collection of short stories exploring Black British life, family, identity, love and belonging. In another tab, I’m developing the creative direction for a charity gala designed to move people towards generosity while treating the stories at the heart of the cause with care.

On the surface, these are two very different projects.

One requires characters, conflict and carefully chosen sentences. The other requires atmosphere, pacing, programming and a thoughtfully designed guest experience.

But both begin with the same question: how do I want people to feel?

Whether I am shaping a story on the page or an experience in a room, every detail must earn its place.

Very different projects, but both guided by the same intention I bring to every wedding I plan: to create experiences that are not simply seen or read, but felt.

#BehindTheScenes #ComeToTheFront #Day8
A guest expects to find their name on a place card A guest expects to find their name on a place card. Imagine finding themselves.

For my recent birthday dinner, I wrote a personal poem for every guest and placed it at their seat. Each one captured something specific about who they are, the history we share and what their presence has meant in my life.

Now, I am bringing that idea to weddings and celebrations through individually written place-card poems - ‘Portraits in Poetry’ if you will.

Among the courses, conversation and clinking glasses, each guest discovers a few lines that could only have been written for them. A memory they thought you had forgotten. The quality you have always admired. The story that still makes you both laugh.

A wedding may centre one relationship, but the room is filled with people who helped shape the individuals in it.

I’ll formally be releasing this service soon so watch this space for me.
More details do not automatically create a more me More details do not automatically create a more memorable wedding.

You can add another sign, another personalised item and another decorative moment, but if those choices do not connect to you, the setting or the way your guests will experience the day, they can quickly become visual noise.

Thoughtful wedding design is not about filling every available surface, it is about knowing what deserves attention.

Perhaps it’s the way guests are welcomed, the music playing as they enter the room, a menu that reflects both families, a carefully chosen scent, a meaningful reading, a table plan that encourages conversation, or one beautifully executed detail that says something true about the people being celebrated.

The question is not, “What else can we add?”

It is, “What do we want people to feel, and which choices will help us create that feeling?”

Intention will always be more memorable than excess.

What is one wedding detail you have experienced as a guest that genuinely stayed with you?
